Ordinary emulsifiers are used in creams to mix oil and water. They are added for the consistence of the product and rarely bring any effect to skin. Harsh emulsifiers can even disturb the skin’s protective balance. Cicamed day antioxidant is formulated with a new generation of self-emulsifying system which origins from olive oil and provides high hydration and moisturizing effect. The natural olive emulsifier absorbs into the skin and reduces the transepidermal water-loss without solubilizing the skin proteins and lipids. In a double blind, randomized trial the olive emulsifier provided a significant increase in skin hydration after 15 days, as seen in figure 1. Increased skin hydration is a sign of improved skin barrier function.
